Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy or The Three-Body trilogy by Chinese author Cixin Liu is great. Yes, the characters were a bit bland, the writing style was leaning more towards academic-type prose rather than conventional storytelling, but, the story and the concepts put forward were mind-blowing!

The story begins with The Three-Body Problem, where humans realize that they are soon to be invaded by a highly advanced alien race. The story progresses forward epically in the next two books, The Dark Forest and Death’s End. I won’t indulge you with any spoilers, but I can tell you that the scientific concepts dealt with in this book are exceptional, and to some extent realistic. The alien invasion is also like no other.

My favorite book in the trilogy was Death’s End (the third book). I think the ending was perfect even though it was a bit dark and gloomy. As I said, it’s not your conventional Hollywood-style alien invasion story. It’s a survival story, against something that we fully don’t understand, and we, unfortunately, don’t have the powerful combination of Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum to save the day.
